Type, in design, communicates shape and meaning. Arranging type, determining its size, thickness, and placement conveys language and visual elements. The following examples display the same words, with the same meaning, and yet are visually different. One interpretation is angular, with one slightly offbeat, rounded shape while the other is smooth, curved, and natural.
